As we return to school, we wanted to make sure you all were aware that we have begun implementing an Extreme Heat Response Plan. With temperatures rising, we want to reassure you that keeping students safe, comfortable, and ready to learn is our top priority. On extreme heat days, our staff follows a clear plan to help classrooms and common areas stay as cool as possible:

  • Morning ventilation: Windows and doors are opened first thing in the morning to let in cooler air before the day heats up.

  • Fans in classrooms: Each classroom is equipped with an oscillating fan on a stand to keep air moving.

  • Hydration and misters at recess: Students will have access to water stations and outdoor misters during recess.

  • Cooling strategies indoors: Teachers may use handheld spritzers for a light misting, and students are encouraged to drink water throughout the day.

  • Cooling walks: If a classroom becomes overly warm, teachers may take students for a short “cooling walk” to a shaded or cooler space on campus.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and adjust as needed. Thank you for helping us remind students to bring a water bottle each day, wear light clothing, and be ready to stay cool while learning.

Merci, Poppy
